Derp Dog Defined
In the doggo world, doin’ a derp is a way to express a goofy or silly looking facial expression or action that leaves your dog looking funny and making you laugh.
Stress Free | Force Free
In our Private Calgary Studio we create a stress free, off leash, no other dogs, photography experience. We believe in your dog showing up as their goofy self, which means even those with no tricks or skills just yet can find success at a Derp Dog Session.
What’s Included
We get 50 minutes of fun together, 2 backdrop colours, and 5 edited images of your choosing. We allow 2 dogs from the same household, but can accommodate 3 if you reach out personally to get some extra time added on!
Our Commitment to Give Back
At the heart of our mission, lies the desire to ensure that everyone has cherished photographs of their beloved canine companions to treasure for years to come. We have taken this commitment a step further, by dedicating ourselves to gifting photo sessions monthly to two significant causes close to our hearts.
Rescue Donations
Our gifted sessions to rescue organizations are specifically aimed at providing a lifeline to dogs that have endured prolonged stays in shelters. These are often older dogs, who, on paper, may appear to carry a little more baggage. In reality, these golden souls possess immense character and charm. Our goal is to give them a well-deserved profile boost and help them on their journey to finding their forever homes.
Jinx's Legacy Sessions
In loving memory of Jinx, we invite people to nominate dogs for a special session. Dogs who receive a Legacy session may be facing health challenges, have uncertain timelines, or simply be in the golden years of their lives. Each month, we randomly select a nominee and invite them in for a Derp Dog session. We understand the emotional challenges that come during the end of a dog's life. Our aim is to create lasting mementos that celebrate the joyous moments and unique personalities of these beloved companions, ensuring they remain timeless keepsakes for their families.

Hey there! I'm Sarah, the founder of Derp Dog Studios. My journey into canine photography began as a response to the loss of our Boxer, Jinx. Amidst the grief, scrolling through a decade of photos reminded me of the incredible life we shared. Being a photographer the last 10 years has lent me the luxury of having tooooo many photos.
Derp Dog Studios emerged as a way to turn that grief into joy and purpose. Rooster, the Braque Français, now takes the spotlight in my photography escapades, from playful agility courses to hunting adventures and whatever hat or glasses I’m convincing him to wear.
Obsessed with dogs doesn't quite cover it—dogs are my life. Derp Dog Studios is more than a photography studio; it's a celebration of the love and resilience that dogs bring to our lives. I invite you into our studio to capture your love of your life, whatever stage of doghood they are in.
